New Orleans Eye Screening
This past spring Project Vision, along with its partner Jewish Healthcare International,
coordinated free eye screening at a health fair at the Plaquemines Medical Clinic in Port Sulphur, New Orleans. This clinic is the only 24/7 provider of emergent and non-emergent healthcare services in Plaquemines Parish, which suffered significantly from the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
During the 1 day mission over 70 patients were screened for vision, hearing and general health related issues. After the vision screening the volunteers gave eye glass vouchers to patients in need or referred them for immediate care to the Plaquemines Medical Clinic system or to local physicians.
Due to the success of this mission, Project Vision helped establish a full vision screening section in the clinic that now offers vision screening to local residents.
